Scot and I have been cable free for almost 4 months now. We still get the basic channels thanks to our digital antenna, but that's it.
I think we've been doing pretty good so far.. going from 100+ channels to 7 channels is hard, yo. I have to say, I watch A LOT more news than I ever have before, since that's basically all that is on between the hours of 4 and 6pm. I also have to credit our lack of cable for introducing me to my new favorite show.
I learned that this magnificent show is on syndication on the CW from 6-7pm. And no, I never watched it before now. Always heard of it, thought it was some weird "adult" show (oh.. I'm an adult too?) and never really bothered. And then. Then I learned the error of my ways, have become a huge fan, and bought the first three seasons on DVD.
Anyway. The whole not-having-cable-and-watching-shows-we-normally-wouldn't thing has it's downfalls. As in.. why are we actually watching TV? I could be so much more productive than just sitting on my bum and watching the same news stories over and over again.
So genius me said to Scot, "I wish I read more often, and not just on the metro to and from work. I need to watch less TV".
To which Scot got really excited and proclaimed, "Let's do it! No TV Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday!"
To which I responded with "Ahhh no. Glee is on Tuesday's."
So I think we're starting with no TV on Monday's or Wednesday's. I had to be very clear and make sure that Scot knew that video games count as TV, and he couldn't just ignore me and surf the interwebs, since that won't accomplish anything. We are doing this in an effort to both read more, spend more quality time together, and when the weather gets a bit warmer, go outside more.
It starts tonight (I think). Wish me luck.

Glee has a new episode after the Superbowl!! Color me excited.
I do most of my reading when I let Kevin hold the remote, which is like...once a month. :D
well with DVR i could go without watching TV whenever because i'd just catch up on another day, which isnt good haha because i'd spend extra time on that day! we should get rid of our cable too, it's so frickin' expensive!!
I really need to watch this show. I've heard so many good things.
I so desperately need to start reading more before I forget how to speak properly :P These past few weeks being by myself I find I craft & tweet more in the evenings with a Pandora station on and not turning on the tv 'cept for Modern Family on Weds!
We have basic cable, but I don't watch a lot of tv really. Although, with my new BFF instant Netflix, I watch lots of movies!! But the only show I watch is Gossip Girl. I have seen the first few episodes of How I met Your Mother and want to get them on Netflix, but haven't put them in the DVD list yet.
I like the idea of no tv on a night! Maybe I should instigate that at my house too!! But the hubs is so busy doing homework that he crashes after. Sad.
Some how I'm not a HIMYM (?) fan. Maybe I'm just not into sitcoms anymore? Maybe its because when you go without cable for 4+ years, you begin to watch less and less TV?
I watch Greek (on hulu), Glee (if I remember) and I like Castle (but only if its on tv)... I feel like a nerd but most of our TV watching is on our 3 PBS stations.
Friggin love PBS.
Oh, I'd be with you come summer, but right now it's like my oxygen. I rarely even get on the internet. When I have to take my hands out from under the blankets my fingers get cold.
Wow, that's awesome. We haven't had cable since we moved into our new house and I find that I definitely waste too much time sitting in front of the tv while being online.
You guys are gonna get so much reading done! I'm super impressed!
We really need to do this. We have talked about going cable free but havent made the jump yet. Now that TOp Chef is over we might just do it. We also spend way too much time on internet/video games and at least one night a week with none of that would do us good!!
