So I wasn't sure I was going to participate in this at first, but the fates have other plans.
After Christmas and the New Year, I vowed that I would start getting in shape (again). I'd start eating better (again), drink less vino (again), and workout more (again).
Can you tell I've tried this before?
I can't really say it's been a success so far, but it hasn't been a failure either.
I'm kind of doing all those things, but not to the capacity that I want to be doing them. I also tend to go through phases of a lot of working out or extreme dieting and whatnot, and it just never lasts.
Let's face it: I hate working out. Hate it. Loathe it. I like to dance, that's what I do. But dancing only takes you so far. Even when I was dancing all the time, every day, I looked the same and weighed maybe 5 pounds less than I do right now. Typical work outs do nothing for me. Seriously.
I may also have this thing where I want instant results (because Scot usually gets them, and it's seriously SO not fair) and I just don't see them. I went to the gym 3 to 4 times weekly about a year ago, and saw no. changes. I think I actually gained weight, and I don't think it was due to muscles.
I've determined that the problem lies in that I'm doing the wrong exercises for my body. Running and lifting weights all the time isn't what my body needs. It needs pilates, it needs yoga, it needs more isometric workouts. So why don't I go do them? Well, I sometimes do yoga in the comfort of my own home, and I have a pilates tape (yes, tape) somewhere that I can't seem to find (not like it matters, because I don't think we have a tape player anymore). I would love to go to classes, but I don't have the money for it (apparently I rank getting a camera above fitness.. oh well). I have a Wii Fit thingy, but it's not really a weight loss genius. More like a "look how many hula hoops I can do" thing.
Anyway, point of post and joining Fitness Friday: I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in 2011. I ran on the treadmill (side note: I had a total brain fart and could not for the life of me remember what a treadmill was called, and was forced to google "running machine". You can't make this stuff up.) and lifted weights.
It was really boring. I also decided to "read" Rachael Ray Everyday while on the running machine. Not a good idea when you'd rather be eating instead of running.
Speaking of food, I need to change some things in that aspect. I figured I'd finally read Naturally Thin by Bethenny Frankel, since I bought it last September and haven't cracked it open since. Kristin over at Busy Bee mentioned that she was going to be reading it, and I figured, what the heck, why don't I do it too? I'm also interested in picking up Unbearable Lightness by Portia de Rossi, as recommended by Kate at Marsh Mellow Goodness. I could use some knowledgeable views on the whole what-to-eat-and-when thing.
So those are my thoughts on fitness/working out/etc. I am really going to try to find a plan that works for me within the next few weeks, and will keep you posted!! Wish me luck, please.. I need it.

Good luck! Dieting is the worst thing in the whole world in my opinion. Exercise, too. I sometimes wish I had no taste buds so that I could just eat healthy and wouldn't care because I wouldn't be able to taste the difference anyways.
Thanks for the shout out!
1. Your blog is super cute. Don't know if I've ever told you that.
2. I too want instant results. Why do boys have it so easy?
3. I too love to dance and hate to workout. Have you heard of Zumba? Look it up. I heard it's awesome.
4. YOU CAN DO THIS! No matter what, you'll be beautiful!
PS- Don't forget to link up, so new followers know to stop by your blog. :-)
Yikes, I knew I was forgetting something!! Will do, stat!
I really want to read Naturally Thin and I'm with you on the hate working out thing. It's all I can do to force myself to go three times a week.
Hey i didnt get to comment earlier on this but I think its great that you are getting focused on fitness again! It starts to become a lifestyle and you'll learn to love it once you find the right way for you! I have learned that everyone is different and the work outs must be different for each person as well! Keep your head up! You can always ask me for questions! I am always here to help!
Oh, I'm totally with you. I just found out that Isaac is looking at a big hiking/beach trip in March. If I tried to hike right now, I'd probably fall backwards when I put my pack on. And I don't even want to TALK about a bikini. So, it looks like my 3 month break from working out is over. We can suffer together.
Btw, if you got bored on the machine, try the elliptical and read gossip mags on it. It's smoother so it keeps you from getting bulky legs like running and the magazines are entertaining and inspiring with everyone being in pretty outfits and stuff. Plus, they're such an embarrassing indulgence in real life, but you can totally get away with reading them at the gym. It works for me.
I found you from Classic Puppy Love and wanted to say hi!
I was just talking to my mom about this yesterday, and men lose weight almost instantly, while we gain when we first start working out (so discouraging). We theorized it must be water weight. So here's to sticking with it even if it looks like it's not working at first!
