In the spirit of saving money, Scot and I haven't gone out on a "date" in a while.. but we somehow managed to make the past few days into a date weekend. And it rocked.
Friday, we headed over to Copper Canyon Grill (thanks to a nice Groupon I just bought the day before) for dinner and some drinks. If there is one near you, you must go, because their chicken is freaking amazing. Probably some of the best I've ever tasted.
Saturday was a chill day.. I worked in the morning, watched a whole bunch of How I Met Your Mother in the afternoon, and went out with HK and K-bomb at night. Good day.
Sunday, Scot and I went to the gym (point!) in the morning, then headed over to the DC Tattoo Expo in Arlington, VA.
I was trying to get us and the signage. Fail.
We enjoyed a few drinks..
And bought some onesies for our friends' new twin babies.
Yep. Went to a tattoo show and got onesies.
I had every intention to go out later that night again with HK and K-bomb, but it was just too damn cold and my bed was just too damn comfy.
Monday, Scot and I got some bagels for brekkie, then headed to the Newseum in DC (thanks to another fab Groupon!). We saw the sights, like the Berlin Wall..
It's so crazy how the free, West side is covered in graffiti, and the communist East side is completely bare, since anyone who got too close to the wall would be attacked. Eerie, but so significant.
..and the free press wall..
Green = free, yellow = semi-free, red = not free. Most of it is as expected, but it's interesting to see how certain countries fair - most of South America is partially free, except for Venezuela, which has no freedom of press at all.
..and the amazing view of the Capitol.
Then we went to the one exhibit I was aching to see.. the 9/11 exhibit, with a portion of the antenna that used to sit atop one of the World Trade Center Towers.
Behind the antenna, they displayed all the newspaper headlines in the days following 9/11. Behind that wall, there was a short movie playing, that featured the reporters who covered the story as it was happening in real time. I have to admit to you all that every time I see pictures or watch the events unfold from that day, I start crying. I was in the corner of the movie room practically bawling and hiding behind Scot. I briefly mentioned it a while back, but I grew up just about 30 miles east of the city, and my mom has an office based out of the city. The amount of people I know and that my mom, a therapist, works with that were affected by that day is insurmountable. My whole world changed that day.. everyone's did. Even looking at the above picture and writing these few words here has me tearing up again. It was such a tragedy, and sometimes I still can't believe it really happened.
So. After I wiped my tears, we made our way around more of the museum and decided that we need to come back again in the spring, because there is just too much to see and do that we just didn't have the time or energy for. Before we left, we made a quick stop at the gift shop where I snatched up these beauties:
This is also my new fancy camera shot of the day ;)
Hand painted cherry blossom wine glasses. I die.
After we got home, Scot and I ended our super awesome date weekend with some Chinese food and Lord of the Rings. And it was perfect :))
How were your weekends? Did you have off yesterday and do anything fun?!
