I blame the cat.

Let me set the scene for you.

I'm at work, minding my own business, counting down the last half hour until I get to leave for the day and go home and pack for our week-long Christmas vacation.

Then the following phone call takes place.

Scot: So, I think you have too many clothes.
Me: Preposterous.
Scot: The closet just collapsed.
Me: What??
Scot: Just on your side. The whole wire rack with your clothes ripped out the dry wall and fell down.
Me: Frick.

My friends, this is what I came home to:

That whole slanty thing with all my clothes? Is supposed to be attached to the wall. I also had a bunch of sweaters and a box or two chilling on top of the hanger part.

Now before you go all "first you knock down the tree and now you inadvertently destroy the closet" on me, let me explain.

1. The clothes were unevenly distributed on said rack. Because of an adjoining one on the left hand side, clothes could only be hung on the right 2/3 of the rack, so the weight was unbalanced compared to where the studs in the wall were.

2. This is an apartment provided closet. It came that way.

3. Tegan was SUPER puff tail for the next three hours and wouldn't even go near the closet without freaking out. Tully was fine. My theory is that she was trying to claw her way up my clothes to the top rack to sleep on my sweaters (she does that), and her weight was the tipping point and caused the whole thing to come crashing down. Simple explanation, no? Also, reason number 28843927 why both cats are on weight management food.

So I moved all my clothes to the lower rack, which wasn't being used, but now my longer shirts and sweaters can't hang right and it sucks.

And please don't agree with Scot and say I have too many clothes. I'm a girl. And he honestly has almost as many.

Sure, that's only about 1/4 of them on the collapsed rack, but in my defense I really like to layer and I have a really hard time getting rid of old clothes. I mean.. I might want to wear them one day. What if I get rid of a shirt and then two months later realize that I NEED that shirt to go with some random outfit?!

Man I sound spoiled. But please know that I still have several shirts from high school in that closet. (Like I said, baaaad at getting rid of things.) Also, memories and all that fun stuff.

Do you have any tips for parting ways with old clothes (or anything old for that matter)?

Totally the cats fault. You have got to layer, especially in the winter. It's always cold outside but when you go inside a store, burning hot. Layers Scot. LAYERS.

Dude, that was that cat, all the way.

amazing. I get in trouble all the time for the amount of clothes I have. But I have nothing to wear - so obviously I don't have enough. And NO I do not have enough shoes or coats.

I blame the cat too... ALWAYS blame the cat.

Definitely the cat. For sure. And I agree, you need to layer! It's what Stacy and Clinton say all the time and you CAN'T ignore them, right?

I totally get what you're saying about letting go of clothes, too. But...sometimes you gotta purge. Purging feels sooo goooood. I'm pretty good at it so if you need some one to give you a push, I'll come over w/ a bottle (or two) of wine and we'll tackle that 'ish!
