Go away, 70's style

Ok, that's not true. I actually really like most of the 70's style thing, and have been rocking a lot of 70's inspired looks in the past year or so. I know they said that the 80's were making a comeback, but I didn't (and will never) have anything to do with that.

Oh geez I'm lying again. I actually really love leggings now. Never thought I'd say that after the 5th grade.

The one thing 70's style related that I'm annoyed about is the supposed comeback of these high waisted, flare bottomed, trouser jeans.

Now, in defense of the fashion world, when I saw how popular skinny jeans were becoming a while back, I also balked. I was pretty there sure there was no way in hell that I could pull them off. My mom thought I could manage it, and lo and behold, a pair of Express jeans proved her right and me wrong. Now skinny's are my favorite type of jeans to wear.

Sporting my black skinny's back in May

I still get a bit self-conscious in them, because I have larger thighs. They truly are mostly muscle, but I will have you know right now that even at my skinniest, my thighs stayed pretty much the same. No amount of pilates, yoga, or working out will do much to change them. I like to think of my lower half as pretty similar to Kim Kardashian's, with a bit less badonk-a-donk and a bit more tummy. (How does she keep hers so flat?? I'm jealous.)

Anyway, back to the trouser jeans: no. I will not wear them, even if I am the only person in the world left wearing my skinny jeans. Myself and Jessica Simpson cannot pull that look off.

Don't get me wrong, I think Jessica is gorgeous, and not "fat/large/heavy" in the least bit. I just think she made a really, really bad fashion choice.

One that I refuse to make. Miss Kim K can seemingly pull it off (according to the fashion gurus, but I personally don't think it's the most flattering fit on her either).

I just.. greatly dislike this trouser jean resurrection. So please don't go thinking I'm all ugly and have no fashion because you never see me in these jeans.

Rant over.

I own one pair of trouser jeans, put them on the other day and promptly took them off. I'm not trying to look any bigger than what I am, which is what they did. Lol!

I still haven't convinced myself to buy skinnies though, I'm sticking to bootcut for now. :(

While trouser jeans can make some look bigger - they help show off my curves. I'm a curvy (very curvy) size 6 (read: huge hips and thighs) so these do a good job and streamlining my legs.

I look like a beached whale in skinny jeans.

While I agree the trouser jeans you pictured above are kind of ridic, I am a huge fan of high waisted, thicker jeans - otherwise my butt is going to hang out. Mkay?

I really love the wide leg jeans if they're not TOO wide leg and too long that they fall PAST the floor! Jessica Simpson just has an ill-fitting pair and I think that's why she looks so bad. And I am the same with you on skinnies! I never thought they would look good because I'm built like a dancer (aka you) but they are very flattering! Don't fret - find the right fit/pair and I think you might feel different about the wide-leg jean trousers ;)

You are not alone. I will never own a pair of those jeans.

I'm 5' tall. Just won't work! Skinny jeans for me.

Oh heck, girl. 70's fashion is my favorite. Don't knock it if you don't like it! :P

I love trouser jeans, 70's flares, love love love. Like Hannah said, wide hips look mucho better in them than we do in skinnies (though I rock those too, because damn it, I like me!) :D

I just don't want to give up on the skinnies! I'm still obsessed with the look even though its been like, years now! I know I'll rock the flared out look sooner then later, but the fashion industry makes me feel like a fool. They are constantly recycling old styles so it seems that just as I throw out an old style, it comes back again!

Lesson learned I suppose.

xo.

I have never liked trouser jeans. I am way too short & not skinny enough to wear them

I'm pretty tall and I think trouser jeans can be really flattering on me. But, high-waisted pants of any variety look terrible on me! Also, count me in as someone who balked at skinny jeans and has since become a convert.
