Starting with.. chicks in a blanket!
What the moose is that, you may ask? Well, they are only the most scrumptious
I've mentioned that I don't eat red meat or pork, and I don't really have an issue with it. Chicken and fish are like crack to me, but I've always been pretty apathetic when it came to cows and pigs. The ONE thing I miss most since giving it up 10+ years ago? Hot dogs. Seriously. Turkey dogs are great and all, but nothing compares to a nice, juicy Ball Park frank. Ugh so good. Especially pigs in blankets - I have been known to sneak a few (and risk getting sick) when I see them at a party or something. Don't tell the chicken police.
Which brings us to chicks in a blanket. I love those little pigs in a blanket so darn much that I needed to find a way to recreate them and not get sick. (Side note: my body just isn't used to the red meat/pork, so I don't react well to it if I do have it). Enter a tasty combo of Crescent rolls, chicken, and cheese.
These are unbelievably easy to make, but I'll take you through it!
1. Cut up chicken into bite sized pieces. Cook using some EVOO and seasoning - my absolute favorite is Seasoned Salt by Tastefully Simple. I think we use this every time we cook chicken.
Set aside chicken when you're done cooking and allow it to cool a bit - you'll need to pick them up with your hands later!
2. While the chicken is cooking, start prepping the Crescent rolls and cheese. I used the Pillsbury Reduced Fat kind, and tested out Muenster cheese for this batch. I usually use Swiss or American, though.
Does anyone else get freaked out with the can pops? I jump every. time.
Lay out and separate the triangles from the Crescent rolls, then cut each one into thirds. This doesn't have to be exact.. you could even cut them into fourths depending on how much chicken/how big of pieces you have.
Cut the cheese into strips about the same length/size as the Crescent roll strips - you just want to make sure they fit. Then set up your little assembly line!
3. Lay the cheese on top of each Crescent strip.
4. Assemble! Take a piece of chicken and wrap the Crescent/cheese strip around it. It's ok if some cheese is sticking out or if the chicken isn't wrapped all the way. There's beauty in variety!
5. Bake according to the Crescent roll directions - generally about 11 minutes at 350F.
They should come out of the oven all melty and golden brown!
6. Enjoy! I like honey mustard, and was dying to try out French's new Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce. It was really quite delicious!
Nutritional info: Don't worry about it. I used Reduced Fat rolls and cut the fat off the chicken. Totally counts.
PS. Happy Harry Potter Dayyyyyy!
