And, to my wonderful darling fiancee, go away. Not that you really read this thing anyway, but if you do.. shoo.
Ok. So before I continue, you all must know that I've been obsessing over this one dress:
It's Demetrios 3137. I've looked at and written about it so much that when I search for it in Google images,
my WeddingBee user pic comes up. No lies.
That being said, I've been wedding dress "shopping" three times already.
The first time I went was about three weeks ago on Long Island with my best friend/maid of honor #1, J. They didn't have my dream dress, but I still tried on several dresses that were just "eh".. I had no idea (and a very exact idea) of what I wanted.
This is just a mess of a picture.
(No idea who made this dress)
Yea. Facial expression says it all. Although I did kind of like this at the time.

Just when I thought I was done meandering, I found a Demetrios dress that was similar-ish in style to my love, 3137. J and I made a last minute decision, tracked down my consultant, and tried it on.
Yowza.
(Demetrios GR181)
I couldn't stop staring at myself. Vain, much?
I was very close to declaring this THE ONE and calling it a day. I loved it. It fit me like a glove. It looked amazing and was incredibly figure flattering. But... it wasn't 3137. I needed to try on that dress. And this one almost seemed a little too formal for the general vibe Scot and I are going for at our wedding. So J and I left the store happy with the end result and with a few sneaky pictures, as you have seen.
The second trip was this past weekend, with one of my bridesmaids, A. I decided to go straight to the source, to a Macy's bridal salon in Virginia, sponsored by Demetrios. Naturally, they had my dress, as well as several similar ones. And it looked just the way I hoped it would - the only downside was that some of the rouching on the body of the dress was messed up and broken, and the dress was about 3 sizes too big so the layers didn't quite settle right.. but even after all that, I still fell in love.
Awkward turtle.
<3
Hair feathers! My niece is gonna be pissed.
Sigh. Love love love love love love love. The one caveat? It's about $400 over my (mom's) budget.
So off I went to appointment #3.. alone. I decided to hit up David's Bridal to see what they have, and also to appease my mom. First up was a dress sort of similar to Demetrios 3137, but it just wasn't quite there.
(DB Galliano Signature SWG354)
The next was a big poofy ball gown that I liked more than I anticipated but made me look like I had one of those shrunken heads.
(DB CWG322)
And then, to my surprise, I kind of fell in love with a very simple gown reminiscent of Maggie Sottero's Carly. Except this one is only $500. Seriously.
(DB WG3077)
It has a lace up corset type back.
I even got a picture with my consultant in a bridesmaids dress similar in color to what I want my girls to wear!
So that's that. I'm sure I'll go looking again, especially since I haven't yet gone with my mom or heard her opinions on any of the dresses I've tried on. While I love this last dress.. I still can't get over the Demetrios one. I just felt so good in it. Maybe there will be a magical sale at just the right time or someone will be selling their used one? :/ Here's hoping!
Anyone else have difficulty finding a dress because of the price, or whatever reason?

I haven't decided what I wanted but I can't wait to see what Vera Wang came up for David's Bridal, which debuts next fall I think.
You've tried on a lot of gorgeous dresses! I can't believe that David's Bridal one is only $500. I was looking for a short dress (my wedding was outside in August) and that was really hard. David's Bridal had online only short ones and the salons had literally just a couple. I ended up going to a bridesmaid dress store and having the sales woman pull all of the ones I could order in ivory. Believe me, finding the right, affordable dress is a process!
Dude I bought my dress like 15 months before my wedding. Totally normal (at least that's what I told myself.)
That David's Bridal one is actually really nice! Although if the Demetrios dress is *the one* there is probably something else you can slash to make it fit into your budget. Don't give up, gal! And seriously, if you even need a dress shopping buddy, let me know!
@EmilyB Aw, thanks!!! And it will most likely come down to slashing budget elsewhere to get that dress.. I def want to try it on in another salon where the bodice isn't as messed up though.
@peachyplum I had no idea VW was doing a line for David's.. I don't know if I can wait that long! Although I'm sure they will have some amazing dresses!
Ok so... my fave is the Demetrios that was ALMOST the one you wanted! Is that weird? I think it looks SO GOOD on you!! I only went to one place and found the dress so I didn't have a very similar experience. I didn't look up any online or anything before! I didn't want to get my hopes up.... when you're bigger, some things don't fit right or look good on. I ended up with something I totally NEVER would have picked from a picture!
Also... you look AMAZING in all of them!
I love "the one!" Although I love the other potential ones too- soo pretty! We had a pretty casual outdoor wedding and I ended up getting my dress from JCrew. Best of luck!
You guys are all amazing, thanks for the support and stories! Although.. still don't know which dress I like best.. heh. I see many more trips in the future ;)
Oops, I lied, the Vera line comes out next spring
Thanks for humoring me! Love the 3137, love the DB dress, too... "we'll tawlk"
