My sentiments, exactly, cute baby.
Major pout-age.
However, this will seriously save us almost $100 a month. Our internet/cable promo package from last year ($99p/month for a year) expires this next billing cycle, and as referenced in a previous post, we are desperately in need of money to pay off bills and pay for the wedding.
Losing cable makes me sad for obvious reasons: losing Bravo, TLC, HGTV, Vh1, and TBS in general, but more specifically, losing Tosh.0, Say Yes to the Dress, and reruns of Scrubs and The Office. It's not like it's the end of the world, this I know; I didn't even have cable at home until I was a senior in high school, and didn't have it for the majority of college, either.
The good part is that a lot of the shows we watch can be found online somewhere; enter Boxee. Scot discovered this little gem of an internet program that pulls video from all over the interwebs. You search for a specific show, such as Glee, and it will show you what websites you can watch it on, like Hulu and Fox. You can click on which site and which episode, and BAM: free television on your computer. The downsides are as expected: limited episodes, not all shows you want are available, you have to wait at least a day to watch a new episode of a show, etc.
We also decided to get a digital antenna, an idea that I got from the ladies over at Poor is the New Black. The best part is that we now get basic cable in HD (which we didn't have before).. so we can watch people on Wipeout fly off of the big red balls (heh) in high-def. Amazing, if you ask me.
So all in all, we are not going to be missing out too much. I am bummed that we're canceling Tivo, though, because we hardly ever watch TV live. We'll see how that works out. (I will also miss the boop-boop noises, I'm not gonna lie).
One show that we'll still get that I watch live every night I'm home? Jeopardy. That's right. I'm a huge nerd, and I love it. Scot and I have mini-competitions to see who gets the most questions right (he usually wins). I get giddy when I know the answers because it was in one of my crosswords, which happens frequently.. like I said, huge dork.

Yay, so glad the digital antenna works for you! And I'm excited to try that site that searches for online for the show you choose!
I want to cancel cable SO badly (after football season) but every time I bring it up (for two years now) my husband looks at me like I've just suggested we neuter him. I keep trying to tell him we can watch most stuff online and that we'd be more active and ummmm...ahem.."creative" without cable, but he still thinks I'm crazy. I'm showing this post to him, looking into this digital antenna and boxee and checking out the link. THANK YOU!
I would love to cancel our cable. I'm scared though. Scared my hubby will have a meltdown, but this rocks and I'm going to try it perhaps. I'll let you know how it goes!
Definitely try out Boxee before getting rid of cable.. we had issues for a while (but I think that's bc Scot keeps messing around and wiping/reloading our main computer). But it's good now! Oh and I should also mention Netflix.. we'll still have that! The Watch Instantly feature is the best invention since pumpkin muffins.
I've been cable-less for so long I don't even know some of the shows mentioned, but Say Yes to the Dress is on Instant Netflix now! Can you hook your computer up to the tv? Then you can watch online shows on the big screen.
