732 days until our wedding!

No, I didn't count them.. I just go by what TheKnot.com tells me! This is based on a supposed date of June 16, 2012, but that could even change. We'll go with what we've got!

I am super excited to be engaged, much less plan a fantastical wedding. For the first two weeks after my finace Scot proposed, I was in super research and planning mode, regardless of the fact that our potential wedding date was 2+ years into the future. One of my dear friends, Meghann, had recently gotten engaged as well and was in the throes of wedding planning, so of course I jumped on board. Her wedding is also 2+ years to boot.. we actually need to plan our wedding around hers due to timing! After a few weeks of freaking out over how much I had to do on such a small budget.. I was able to breathe, and realize hey: I have 2 freaking years to plan this thing! Right now, I just want to enjoy being engaged. And so what if I start creating DIY invitations in my spare time?!?

That being said, I think that step one will be venue/location. We are currently deciding between upstate NY (Finger Lakes region) and southern/eastern Maryland, where Scot and I live (just outside of DC!). I am leaning towards Maryland, mostly because it is our home state, but also because it is generally closer to us and to the people we will be inviting. The problem is the price of everything; money doesn't grow on trees! (Oh no, I'm turning into my parents!) Scot grew up in upstate NY, and the area is gorgeous and we thought it would probably be less expensive. Well, let me tell you: the Finger Lakes region is a big touristy place and their prices almost outdo the Maryland/DC prices. So we are back at square one, trying to scout out those places that are few and far between that may actually fall in our budget. There's food, beverages, tables, chairs, tents, officiant, linens, dishes, dj, photographer, videographer, invites, save the dates, etcetcetc. I'm swimming!

Ok, deep breath again.

We have an appointment at one venue in Havre de Grace in a few weeks; I am hoping beyond hope that we both love it and can afford it. One point for Maryland, anyone??
