DO YOU SEE THIS?! Those are Navy SEALs.. and Navy SEAL dogs. Seriously.
Apparently these dogs (usually German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois') aren't just trained to be attackers, but also to jump out of planes with their handlers at 30,000 feet. That's high enough to require an oxygen mask - for both humans and dogs.
I have no idea exactly how you train a dog to willingly jump out of a helicopter or airplane. But apparently, they are completely fine as long as they are with their handlers. The idea behind having the pups do this is to distract and delay the targets on ground while other SEALs make their way in, as one super brave pup did when we took down bin Laden.
Now of course the dogs need some gear aside from a parachute and oxygen mask.
Most of them are equipped with hi-tech night vision cameras, which allow the SEALs to see what the dogs are seeing. They also have camouflaged armor and, if they parachute near water? That cute little vest self-inflates to become a life jacket.
They even come in pint size versions.
I mean, have you ever..?! It's amazing and crazy and admirable and outrageous all at the same time. Naturally, Scot wants one.
Point of story: if you see this parachuting down towards you..

I love this post so much. LOL, it made me smile. My dog would die of a heart attack if I just put him on a helicopter.
This is so amazing!
this is the coolest post EVER.
Oh my goodness!! I have never heard this! That is SO BADASS, I can't even stand it!!! I want one of those dogs now!
That is so cool! I want an adventurous dog like that. No idea how you would train it to do that though! Maybe they look for the puppies that are little daredevils, jumping out of their dog beds?
Oh man, dogs are so freaking cool, aren't they?
My cousin actually used to work with mold detection/removal (usually a problem in FL with the wet weather and such); he was considering the thought of getting a German Shepherd to train for mold detection, since they can be trained to sniff out the mold, and they are able to crawl into smaller spaces than humans. Dogs are so freaking impressive...
