This is the only picture I could find of our coupon craziness,
which is happening in the background. The rest of this picture
cracks me up though. He is such a fatty.
Coupons have become the hot new thing during the recession, which is still happening for a lot of folks, including us. Money is tight, rent is high, and our cats consume more food than I think is kitty-ly possible (see above). I was reading a bunch of articles about a year and a half ago on how great coupons can be and how much they can save, especially when paired with a savings card at the local grocery store. A lot of you are probably thinking "Well duh, Steph" but truth be told, Scot and I never thought about it or utilized said coupons.
And so it began. The Saturday and Sunday papers are now Scot's favorite purchases of the week.. no, not for the articles. For the fun section wrapped in plastic in the middle. Which, if we're lucky, someone at Starbucks will have tossed to the side and we'll get TWO packs. Which means double the coupons. Pair that with some of the grocery store's Doubler Coupons and sales of the week, and that equals serious savings. We got pretty excited after our most recent excursion to the store, when we realized that we have already saved over $766 so far this year, and could possibly save almost an entire months rent by the end of the year. Don't believe me? Check it out!
$30 saved just from our bonus card, and $7 from random coupons!
So I highly encourage you to take advantage of store and manufacturers coupons, as well as store membership cards - they are totally worth it. ((My Barnes & Noble card may cost $25 a year, but with the amount of stuff I buy there, I probably save five times that.))
To finish things off, mine and Scot's only disagreement on this issue is on how to actually pronounce the word coupons. I say "coo-pons" (like a dove, "cooooo") and he says "que-pons", which annoys the beejezus out of me. Ick. ;)
