((I meant to post this yesterday but Blogger was not having it))
Our apartment is on the 11th floor of our building, which can be a blessing and a curse. Example: It keeps heat in superbly, so we only had to turn our heat on two or three days this past winter, even with Snowmageddon going on outside. However.. it keeps heat in superbly, so any time it is over 70 degrees outside, we are sweltering inside. Sure, we have central air, but the heat happening now is so intense that even the AC doesn't always keep us cool. So, to battle said heat, Scot and I decided to hit up the farmers market super early Saturday morning, and spend the rest of the day in the mall and at home in the AC. I went out to the pool for all of 15 minutes because even being in the water couldn't make you stop sweating; it reminded me of swim team in HS. Yuck.
And as for Sunday: First off, I actually got my butt to a jazz class in the morning, and was relatively impressed with how I did since I have only taken two other classes in the past year. And I can still walk! (This is a big improvement from the last time I took class in April.. could not do stairs or sit down without needing support and experiencing much pain for four days. I am definitely no spring chicken anymore!) I was hoping for a relaxing Sunday in the pool afterwards and hanging out with two of my girlfriends.. half of which happened. See, at about 3:30, Armageddon decided to happen outside; one minute it was sunny and calm, the next.. tornado-like winds, monsoon rain, dark and ominous sky. Chairs and tables were blown into the pool, one of the glass tops of a table shattered, cars were hydroplaning on the streets below, trees were falling... and then the power went out. This isn't such a huge deal, except that I really wanted a glass of faux-champagne, and the bottle was in the fridge. Since we didn't want to open it bc we didn't know how long the power would be out, I was denied of my tasty Sunday afternoon treat (whinewhinewhineeeee). Don't worry, I'm only half-joking here, but there was still the issue of dinner and the elevators being out, food spoiling eventually, and the heat situation - I was mostly worried about the cats.
We decided to take a walk to see if the power was out in the rest of the neighborhood, and it turned out the we were right on the edge of a grid that went out; across the street, they had power at Giant and Mama Lucia's - dinner solution! And we even worked off the calories we consumed by hiking the 11 flights of stairs up to our apartment afterwards.
Anyway.. the "brightest" part about this whole power outage was the quality time Scot and I got to spend together that night. We sat on the balcony and read our own books, sipping some pinot noir, watching the sunset and talking. We never really take time to just relax (without internet or tv), and it was really, really nice. Something that we will probably do again, even without a power outage <3
Oh, and the power came back on as we were going to bed, around 10:30 last night =D Hooray!
