I'm obviously talking about the last Harry Potter movie.
For those of us who like the Harry Potter series and grew up reading the books and eventually watching the movies, the whole phrase "the end of an era" is pretty spot on. My mom was the one who actually got me into the books when I was around 14, and soon I was lining up every summer to get the next book at midnight with my fellow Pott-head and bff Jess.
I know I posted this before but I just lurve the picture, so you can deal.
I saw every movie but the first part of Deathly Hallows in theaters, over half of them at the midnight showing. The night I met Scot, I actually left him and the bar we were at to go to the midnight release of the last book with Jess (hey, gives me an easy way to remember the day we met!).
I became so enmeshed with each and every new addition to the series, and the movies only amplified the stories. To actually see Hogwarts crumble apart, to see and feel the emotions of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and the others when they were fighting or falling in love, to witness the story behind Snape, to see how it all ends up 19 years later.. it's powerful stuff. Sure, I knew everything that was going to happen, which made it surprising (and sad) when I was in tears at the end of the movie (much to Scot's amusement). But whatever. It all just felt very final - no more books, no more movies. It was a sad day on Sunday after I saw the last movie.
I know not everyone has a thing for HP, and that's cool, but it's been a pretty big part of my life these past 10 years. Here's hoping the rumors are true that J.K. Rowling will be coming out with another complimentary series!
If you're a HP dork like yours truly, what are your thoughts on the "end of an era"?
